Building Information Modeling

What does BIM mean?
The term Building Information Modeling stands for a method to optimise planning, completion and management of buildings by using software.
In the process any relevant building data will be recorded, combined and linked up. A virtual, geometric model of the building will be visualised on the computer. The application software for BIM can be used both in the planning and design of buildings as well as in facility management.

What’s the idea behind it?
Except for the drawings of a building, data will be available concerning the built in products and/or product groups. The overall result is a digital model of the construction project.

Meanwhile there are certain standards for BIM.
